FRANKFURT (Reuters) -- Bayern Munich coach Felix Magath accepts the Champions League will be a distraction in today's clash with Hanover 96 but with a 10-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga he is not worried about it.

Bayern, unchallenged on the domestic front, believe they can win Europe's top club competition this season but the clash with AC Milan, last year's beaten finalists, could hardly be tougher.

Today's trip to Hanover, three days before the home leg of their first knockout round tie against the Italians, looks an accident waiting to happen.

"All the top teams in Europe focus their concentration on the Champions League in the buildup to crucial matches," Magath told Bayern's website. "You often see domestic form tailing off. Obviously, my players are mentally gearing up for AC Milan."

Bayern have every reason to be confident, after extending their lead at the top of the table from six points at the turn of the year.

Their two chief rivals also have European dates to worry about.

Second-placed Hamburg SV, who face a tricky game at Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, lost 1-0 to Swiss side FC Thun in the UEFA Cup on Thursday but will be confident of turning around the tie in the return leg at home next week.

Werder Bremen, a point further back in third, have a tough away day against Borussia Dortmund today, four days before they host Juventus in the Champions League.

Bayern manager Uli Hoeness, effectively Magath's boss, criticized the team after a series of unconvincing performances of late but Magath would be happy with more of the same against Hanover. "The mark of a top team is the ability to win despite people saying you didn't play well," Magath said. "We've always struck at the decisive moment and scored decisive goals. That's all you have to do to take the three points."

That will be a tough task against Hanover, who are unbeaten in nine league games since Peter Neururer came in as coach in early November.

They should be strengthened by the return of Germany defender Per Mertesacker.

While Bayern against Milan looks a well matched contest, Bremen will be rank outsiders when they face Italian champions Juve on Wednesday.

Bundesliga leading scorer Miroslav Klose is nearing full fitness after a shoulder injury at the start of the year but coach Thomas Schaaf is unlikely to risk him against Dortmund.

That will leave Nelson Valdez and Ivan Klasnic to resume the search for a goal after Bremen's failure to find the net in their last two games.
